Are you familiar with MRSA? MRSA is the common acronym used to refer to methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus, an antibiotic resistant strain of staph infection. While MRSA has been around for decades it is of concern to doctors and medical professionals because of its resistance to standard treatments. This can cause a delay in diagnosis and treatment that might allow MRSA to spread in the body becoming more dangerous.

The good news is that there are medicines available to treat MRSA infections. Still, the best way to deal with MRSA is to avoid it! MRSA is spread primarily through physical contact. Anyone with a break in their skin can become infected. This includes cuts, sores, burns, and abrasions – basically any skin injury that penetrates the skin’s protective outer layers. (more…)

Studies show Bio Hazard Elimination Requires Professional Training

Monday, November 7th, 2011

Study on the effectiveness of retail disinfectants in eliminating Salmonella demonstrates that household cleaners are not strong enough to eliminate bio-hazards. More thorough bio-hazard elimination requires professional training and professional strength products. From the study, “People are more likely to contract food borne infections in domestic homes than from eating in restaurants, cafes, and bars. This is because people who work at these establishments have training on how to disinfect properly, unlike most users of domestic kitchens.

Tips To Hire Professional Crime Scene, Suicide, Trauma, Death, Biohazard Cleanup Company

Sunday, October 9th, 2011

By NNT Featured Publications- August 2, 2011

The State of Florida licenses crime scene cleanup companies.  Unfortunately, the average consumer may think this means they can trust any company with a state issued license as it implies the state recognizes those companies to be professional in their field.  That supposition couldn’t be further from the truth.  This is placing Florida (FL) families in danger from improper cleanup of crime, trauma, suicide, accidents and other death incidents involving blood or bodily fluid clean up.

The Florida Department of Health ( FL DOH ), whether in Miami, Ft. Lauderdale, Tampa, Orlando or any other city does not in any way shape or form verify the training, knowledge or professionalism in the rendering of crime scene cleanup services of the companies they license.  All having these licenses mean is that the company transports, stores and disposes of medical waste from suicide, trauma, unattended death, accident and other biohazard cleanup in an approved manner; that’s it, nothing more and nothing less.

Further, because the license is so easy to get and implies that a crime cleanup company is professional, many companies have entered the field without having any type of professional training, experience, insurances, equipment, etc.  This may cause the public to assume these companies know what they are doing, paying them as if they were a professional company.  In order to protect yourself, when you look for crime scene cleanup services, please keep the following ideas in mind.

Price is what a consumer tends to focus upon and this is valid, if, they are pricing apples to apples.  Due to lack of experience with the industry, many consumers skip this comparison and focus only on price.  You can buy a fast food burger for $1.00.  You can also buy a sit down restaurant chain burger for $8-10.00.  You can buy a gourmet burger for $15.00.  Now, I am not saying you have to pay gourmet prices but do FL residents really want or deserve fast food quality for blood cleaning when you are talking about the safety of your employees, tenants, clients, children and yourself?

Make sure the company you chose has professional trauma scene clean up training, lots of experience, safety briefing meeting logs, employee handbooks, corporate resumes, “Codes of Safe Practices”, recommendations from high profile clients, etc.  The two italicized ones are the hardest to exaggerate or fake and should be quickly provided when you request them.  Don’t just take their word for it.  Ask for proof.

Why be so diligent?  ALL of these companies say they are OSHA and EPA certified.  That’s nonsense.  Neither of those agencies certifies the crime and trauma scene cleanup industry, they only regulate certain aspects of it.  Companies with fewer than 10 employees are not required to be OSHA compliant.  Protect yourself!  Shop quality then price when looking for a crime or suicide scene cleanup company.

Bio Hazard Cleanup Regulated By State And Federal Regulations

Friday, September 10th, 2010

For companies who do not have any in-house cleaning crew with knowledge of addressing bio hazardous cleanups, the option of hiring a bio hazard cleaner company or an accident scene cleaner company is advisable. Of course, many of these companies may have, and probably do have their own maintenance /custodial crew or cleaning service that comes in regularly. However, few of these have a cleanup staff with familiarity of pertinent state and federal regulations.

Depending on the nature of the biohazard and the issue of whether it includes any hazardous components, different governmental authorities could have oversight of the spill or illegal release. The Environmental Protection Agency and Health Department enforces the disposal of substances. Individual states have their own environmental protection departments which frequently have overlapping regulations with the EPA. OSHA is a federal agency which reviews workplace conditions to ensure workers are free from dangerous conditions. Many cities and counties have ordinances which further regulate the handling and cleaning of biohazardous or medical waste materials.

Most reputable bio hazard clean up companies and accident clean up companies use their knowledge of such different regulatory rules to assist entities in the public and private sector with compliance and cleanup. Further many of these bio hazard cleaning companies and accident cleaning companies also have experience with blood scene clean ups, homicide scene clean ups, suicide scene clean ups, meth lab clean ups, odor removal clean ups and death scene clean ups not to mention staph infection scene clean ups. This enables them to bring a broad range of expertise to bear in assisting those who face the need to clean up dangerous materials.

Insurance Coverage And Responsible Scene Clean Up

Tuesday, August 31st, 2010

Dealing with insurance companies rates right behind going to the dentist or the proctologist as one of the least attractive endeavors that people must occasionally undertake. The difficulties of working with insurance companies stem both from trying to get and retain coverage for a particular purpose and getting an insurance company to properly and fairly pay a claim once an event happens that triggers coverage.

For property owners, and particularly commercial property landlords, one area that should be of concern is if a crime or other traumatic incident occurs on your property. If you fail to adequately clean and sanitize your property after a crime is committed there and you leave the possibility that an unsafe or unsanitary condition exists you could face two distinct problems: (1) an increase your property insurance premiums or (2) a denial of some future claim that may arise (even if the insurance company’s position is unreasonable).

To ward against such a problem it is advisable that, if you own property upon which an accident, bio hazard or crime is committed, you should hire a professional scene cleaning company. Frequently companies that do perform crime scene cleaning also perform infectious disease cleaning, homicide scene cleaning, accident scene cleaning, suicide scene cleaning, death scene cleaning, blood scene cleaning and meth lab site cleaning so you can enlist someone who has experience dealing with problems that have both environmental (or sanitary) and legal components to them.

If you hire such a crime scene cleaner or bio hazard cleaner then you can submit proof of the completion of their work to show that any toxic or hazardous residue from an incident has been removed and that the premises are safe for habitation. This will undercut any argument that an insurance company may try to use to raise your premiums or deny any future claims.
