Motorcycle rider killed in freak accident on SW Freeway

A very unusual accident caused a huge backup Friday evening on the Southwest Freeway. Traffic crawled as investigators looked into a crash in which a man fell through the windshield and into a car.

The motorcycle was found upright and leaning against the HOV exterior wall. Authorities say they don’t know how or why the driver of the Suzuki motorcycle lost control.

It happened during rush hour about 4pm Friday. The driver of that motorcycle was traveling southbound on the 59 South HOV lane near Edloe, when somehow, the driver fell of the motorcycle and over the barrier wall. The driver’s body fell at least 50 feet and onto the lower freeway crashing into the windshield of a Toyota Camry.

The driver of the motorcycle died instantly, say authorities. Despite that horrible crash, the driver of the Camry was able to stop his car and received only minor cuts to his hands and arms say police.

Legal, Safety and Environmental Considerations of Crime Scene Cleanup

Thursday, March 24th, 2011

The field of crime scene clean up is often practiced by companies that also perform blood, homicide, suicide, meth lab, odor removal and staph infection cleanups.  The perils of improper crime scene clean up include legal, environmental and safety problems.  Finding a company that will manage all of these perils can be difficult.

Beginning in 1969 Congress began legislating large-scale legislative frameworks such as the Clean Air Act and the Clean Water Act to address overwhelming problems of pollution and the contamination of lakes and rivers throughout our country. The development of the EPA accelerated the banning and regulation of the discharge of thousands of toxic or hazardous substances. Many states and municipalities followed suit in successive decades to regulate local pollution emissions and demand that private individuals and businesses safely dispose of a bevy of chemicals and discharges.

As the field of medicine has expanded to understand more about the dangers of biohazardous substances, they have fallen into the realm of EPA regulation.  These regulations apply to both disposal and transportation of these substances.  It is important to find a cleanup company that understands and follows these guidelines because with EPA, problems of compliance roll back up hill to the generator of the substances.  Accordingly, public agencies and private landowners have each become knowledgeable of the necessity to utilize the services of professional crime scene clean up companies to ensure they do not suffer such exposure to unnecessary legal and liability troubles.

Additionally, OSHA, has recognized the same issues of safety in work environments apply as that of disposal safety issues and EPA.  OSHA has the power to fine employers that fail to properly train and safeguard their employees when dealing with biohazardous substances.  Employeers, such as hotels and apartment complexes rarely have employees properly trained and equipped to handle death and accident scenes that involve blood or other bodily fluids.  Therefore it is imperative that they hire a crime scene company that does have the proper training and follows OSHA guidlines when cleaning biohazards on their properties.

Last, most companies that would need a cleanup tend to see things as a cost analysis issue.  Unfortunately for them and for the public, they forget to factor in the liability cost.  If they are caught disposing of biohazardous substances improperly or an employee or client becomes sick as a result of improper cleaning or disposal, the liability can be in the millions.  It is cheaper in the long run to just do it correctly and hire a professional company to handle any of the things falling under the heading of crime scene cleaning.

Home Inspection Reveals True Cost of Not Hiring Professional Scene Cleanup Company

Monday, January 17th, 2011

Beginning in the late nineteen eighties when many counties and municipalities implemented new building codes that raised the standards for new homes, apartments and other residences, home inspectors who certify a home’s readiness for sale and identify those flaws that require repair have had to consider more factors when assessing a home’s compliance with the evolving standards. In the midst of this progression, homeowners who have unusual events in their residences may need to address certain problems.

As an example, if a burglar breaks in to your home and you shoot him, there may be considerable blood and tissue that gets strewn throughout your home. Without using a crime scene cleanup company potentially dangerous substances can spread. When an inspector comes to review the facility at the time the homeowner is ready to sell the residence, the failure to use a crime scene cleanup company could cost the homeowner a bundle.

If an inspector finds contamination due to insufficient crime scene cleanup, then the inspector will report this finding in his report to the buyer’s agent. The buyer will certainly seek to have the purchase amount reduced to reflect the diminution in value of the residence as a result of the contamination or demand the seller pay for the remediation necessary to remove the contamination. As such contamination will have probably spread; this cost will be much greater than it would have been if the crime scene cleanup had been performed earlier.

Death Scene Cleanup of the Rich and Famous

Sunday, December 26th, 2010

The nationally-known wrestler lived comfortably in his mansion in John’s Creek right outside of Atlanta. However, at times he would experience enormous anger, reflective of someone on steroids or certain kinds of amphetamines. He also possessed a robust sexual life often extending beyond the confines of sex with his wife. Often in the evening their palatial abode became a swinger’s paradise.

On one evening he saw his wife with another man shortly after he had been with another woman himself. His rage engulfed him so completely; he physically slugged the other man causing, among other things, the man’s head to bust open as they made impact with piece of heavy granite sculpture positioned near a wall. The victim responded by taking a fire poker, located barely within his limited reach, and spearing the wrestler by piercing him in the neck. As the wrestler began having breathing problems and realized he could not make a sound with his voice, he backed up to a closet in the same room and found a shotgun which he immediately cocked and proceeded to fire a single fatal shot disposing of his wife’s recent paramour. Immediately thereafter, the native of nearby Marietta aimed the muzzle at this mouth and blew himself to smithereens.

Shortly after the police responded, they recommended to a representative of the deceased wrestler’s wife, that he retain a suicide clean up company to dispose of the remains from the suicide scene. The suicide clean up company conducted themselves with the kind of professional grace, while performing their cleanup duties that exhibits their appreciation of the difficulty that shocked mourners have in the wake of such a tragedy.

Crime Scene Aftermath: University Shooting

Tuesday, September 28th, 2010

The disturbed graduate student had had enough. Years of being ostracized and scoffed at would soon come to an end. On a spring morning on the university’s campus he walked in to a classroom and shot two students. Before the campus officials or police could respond, he walked to a different building and unloaded a series of shots killing several unarmed students and wounding scores of others, many physically and others mentally or emotionally. By the time the university issued a campus-wide lockdown and the deranged perpetrator shot himself, over a dozen people were dead.

The entire university community was in a state of deep shock. With security issues to address and memorial services to plan, one aspect of the response that the university officials were free from having to concern themselves with was the death scene cleanup. The university hired a death scene cleaner company which does accident scene cleanings, crime scene cleanings, homicide scene cleanings, blood scene cleanings, meth lab cleanings, odor removal cleanings and suicide scene cleanings. They reviewed the affected areas where the shootings took place. They further applied the appropriate solvents to get rid of the blood.

They removed all the shredded tissue and took care of other cleaning responsibilities. Then the death scene cleaners sanitized and decontaminated the crime scene and advised the university’s custodial staff about what they did and what they might want to be looking for in the future to ensure no hazardous or toxic materials reemerge. While the university would take years to fully recover from the tragedy, the crime scene cleanup aspect of the response was complete.
