Crime Scene Clean up Companies An Asset To Local Police

Friday, October 8th, 2010

Many law enforcement agencies must stretch their personnel’s time with the numerous tasks that are required. A well-staffed homicide division must include enough detectives to be able to lead the number of investigations estimated for a given period of time within a jurisdiction. They must have sufficient officers to apprehend subjects, question witnesses, respond to numerous calls, process a crime scene as well as a myriad of other important tasks.

One of the jobs they frequently do not have a satisfactory amount of time for is to clean up a crime scene after the crime scene is fully processed. Accordingly, the wise course of action is to retain a private crime scene clean up company to handle these tasks of accident scene cleanups, trauma scene cleanups, homicide scene cleanups, suicide scene cleanups, meth lab cleanups, odor removal cleanups and death scene cleanups. This not only alleviates a set of tasks that a typical local police department lacks time to address but also serves a health and environmental purpose.

The question then may be asked why a city or county would not have their own custodial or environmental cleaning crew handle such a task. The answer is simple: most cities and counties have limited health and environmental departments. The number of employees it takes to give health code ratings to restaurants and other businesses is usually enough to fill a staff. The number of people needed just to monitor health and safety standards is so great that most city or county budgets lack the size to include crime scene cleaning.

Murder Scene Cleanup May Require Working With CSI Teams

Friday, August 20th, 2010

The homicide scene cleaner company had been on the site of the murder for over six hours but had not yet been given the green light to proceed with their murder scene cleanup. The murder had occurred more than eight hours ago and the police detective in charge of the case had called them shortly after he had arrived on the scene. But the suspect had been shot by the eventual decedent before the victim expired. Accordingly, the samples of blood on the scene were possibly, though not clearly, mixed. The police were trying to get the best toxicology experts out to the scene because of the problem they faced. They wanted to ensure the blood that was taken at the scene was properly collected so they could run valid DNA tests on the samples.

Accordingly, the homicide scene cleaning company staff waited. Since these homicide scene cleaners also performed accident scene cleanings, crime scene cleanings, suicide scene cleanings, blood scene cleanings, meth lab cleanings, odor removal cleanings and other death scene cleanings, they were completely sensitive to the problem. They did clean up a little bit of debris from the area but nothing of great significance.

Finally, the toxicology experts confirmed they had been able to collect several samples of blood that were clearly different types. At that point the detective told the death scene clean up company to proceed with its work. For the next few hours they scrubbed and scoured the premises before finally decontaminating the area. They consulted with the police additionally before finishing their work after being on site for upwards of twelve hours.

Meth Lab Cleanup Procedures

Tuesday, July 20th, 2010

The increase of methamphetamine production and the covert and makeshift labs that create the addictive drug has spawned a veritable industry of meth lab cleaner companies throughout the United States seeking to obtain the cleanup work. Few of the fifty states have taken seriously the safe and thorough cleaning of these meth lab sites.  Despite that, many companies that previously engaged in crime scene cleaning, homicide scene cleaning, accident scene cleaning, suicide scene cleaning, death scene cleaning, blood scene cleaning and even staph infection scene cleaning have added meth lab cleaning to their gamut of services provided.

The tasks of a legitimate meth lab cleanup company are many. They include an inspection of the meth lab site, examination of law enforcement records regarding the removal of contaminates, and the creation of a plan to sample parts of the site. An analysis of the samples that are procured, the development of a work plan that must be approved by the applicable law enforcement and/or environmental authorities, the submission of a written plan detailing the meth lab cleanup must be included prior to cleanup. After executing the decontamination process and cleanup, a verification by sampling to be conducted by a third party after the meth lab cleaning and a fully comprehensive final report detailing the results and verification of the cleanup have to be filed.

These cleanup procedures can be required by state statutes and regulations, but should be undertaken regardless.  Meth lab clean ups require greater documentation production than the other work (crime scene cleanups, accident scene cleanups, homicide scene cleanups, suicide scene cleanups, odor removal cleanups and death scene cleanups not to mention staph infection scene cleanups) that these companies often perform. Until the epidemic of meth lab usage declines, it is likely that these companies will continue to have an important role in this law enforcement and environmental challenge.

Scene Cleanup: Working With Law Enforcement Agencies

Friday, June 4th, 2010

Homicide scene cleanups must be performed in strict conjunction with the law enforcement agencies running an investigation. In some cases multiple jurisdictions will participate in a single case. If a suspect is wanted by authorities outside the locality of a particular crime, city or county; or a police departments needs help to investigate a difficult case, state or federal officials may share responsibility for the case. In this event, the head of the homicide scene cleaning company’s operation must accurately delineate who is really in charge so that the appropriate release may be obtained.

It is not unusual for the state or the federal level – FBI, for example – to be brought in where the need for sophisticated analysis of particular evidence is required. The homicide scene cleaner company staff must work closely with each law enforcement agency to confirm what materials can be disposed and what needs to be left for these officials to secure. It is the vital interplay between the law enforcement agencies and the homicide scene cleaning team that ensures that vital evidence is neither tampered with or destroyed. It is the professional obligation of the murder scene cleanup operation to maintain this coordinated relationship with law enforcement.

Since homicide scene cleaner companies are also crime scene cleaner companies, murder scene cleaner companies, suicide scene cleaner companies, blood scene cleaner companies or death scene cleaner companies, they should wield the sensitivity to understand that certain materials should not be removed without authorization from law enforcement. Initially learning the specific chain of command for a job will alleviate this kind of problem.

Increase In Covert Meth Labs Leads To Increased Biohazards

Tuesday, June 1st, 2010

Meth lab cleanup companies are relatively recent products of the epidemic of methamphetamine use in the last fifteen years. In the mid nineteen eighties crack cocaine was the narcotic that devastated the urban centers of our country. The cheaper (and more easily addictive) form of cocaine ravaged inner cities throughout the country as users saw there was an affordable alternative to powder cocaine, often preferred by more affluent suburban kids. As the peril of crack cocaine use was assaulted by mandatory minimum legislation and the formation of municipal and regional drug task forces, the crack cocaine epidemic was blunted.

However, in the nineteen nineties, a new lurid drug raised its head. Actually crystal meth (or methamphetamine) was not new. But its popularity did soar. Unlike crack cocaine, though, it got its foothold in rural areas. Much cheaper to produce than crack cocaine because its constituent compounds are vastly cheaper, customers with less money could afford to dabble with it. Also its popularity stemmed from the fact that practically anyone with a kitchen could produce the stuff provided they have a criminal bent.

This is where the meth lab cleaning companies come in. A meth lab possesses numerous potential chemical hazards. As the epidemic gained steam, and the number of meth lab-related accidents spiked, due to negligence in the cooking process, the need for professional meth lab cleaners correspondingly spiked. As some of these companies previously performed murder scene cleanings, crime scene cleanings, homicide scene cleanings, suicide scene cleanings, blood scene cleanings, staph infection cleanings, mrsa infection cleanings and bio hazard cleanings, they possessed some expertise in this kind of remediation work. But as a few states increased the licensing requirements to perform meth lab cleanup work, the field became more specialized. Only time will reveal if this current epidemic will continue to ravage the lives of its users or if law enforcement and treatment measures will stem the tide.
