After calling three crime and trauma scene cleanup companies looking for the best price, a man paid top dollar (I am being sarcastic of course) for a crime scene cleanup company to sanitize his hot tub.  A week earlier a person had died in this eight-person, 14 jet, in-ground behemoth while enjoying what would be his or her last dip.  Instead of a company vehicle or an extensive array of equipment, a solitary man in a basketball jersey and baggy athletic shorts showed up without a single item to perform his job.  (more…)

Crime Scene Cleanup: Drug Deal Gone Bad

Friday, October 1st, 2010

Davis walked over to the basketball court in the middle of this old neighborhood. About two months before he had sold two rocks of crack cocaine to Jerry. He had seen Jerry twice since then. The first time, a few days after he sold him the drugs, he didn’t even ask Jerry about the money. Nor did he expect to be paid so fast. The second time, a week earlier, he had brought up the subject. At 16 years of age, Davis was not very mature. On this Friday afternoon he was carrying a gun that one of his drug providers had given him but never taught him how to shoot. He saw Jerry over there and yelled to him, “Where’s the money you owe me?”

“Dude, I’m in the middle of the game” screamed Jerry, obviously annoyed.

Within ten seconds, in front of 12 to 15 witnesses, Davis pulled out his revolver and fired at least 5 or 6 shots before bolting into the neighborhood. Within minutes the police arrived at the basketball court and within 2 hours, based on information they got from some of the witnesses about his whereabouts, they found and arrested Davis. The police got numerous witness statements and put together a slam dunk case which eventually led to his murder conviction as an adult: his sentence, life imprisonment.

The criminal prosecution in this case was probably easier than the crime scene cleanup at the basketball court. The City called in a homicide scene cleaner company to clean up the blood and guts left on the court. At the time there were so many crimes being committed in that neighborhood. It was helpful that the homicide scene cleaning company which also conducted suicide scene clean ups, accident scene clean ups, meth lab clean ups, odor removal clean ups and other death scene clean ups in addition to blood scene clean ups, got rid of the physical reminder of the horrid crime. That neighborhood needed a place for its kids to play. Despite the toll the crack cocaine epidemic had taken on that area, the good work of the crime scene cleaners mitigated the negative effects of the incident.

Crime Scene Aftermath: University Shooting

Tuesday, September 28th, 2010

The disturbed graduate student had had enough. Years of being ostracized and scoffed at would soon come to an end. On a spring morning on the university’s campus he walked in to a classroom and shot two students. Before the campus officials or police could respond, he walked to a different building and unloaded a series of shots killing several unarmed students and wounding scores of others, many physically and others mentally or emotionally. By the time the university issued a campus-wide lockdown and the deranged perpetrator shot himself, over a dozen people were dead.

The entire university community was in a state of deep shock. With security issues to address and memorial services to plan, one aspect of the response that the university officials were free from having to concern themselves with was the death scene cleanup. The university hired a death scene cleaner company which does accident scene cleanings, crime scene cleanings, homicide scene cleanings, blood scene cleanings, meth lab cleanings, odor removal cleanings and suicide scene cleanings. They reviewed the affected areas where the shootings took place. They further applied the appropriate solvents to get rid of the blood.

They removed all the shredded tissue and took care of other cleaning responsibilities. Then the death scene cleaners sanitized and decontaminated the crime scene and advised the university’s custodial staff about what they did and what they might want to be looking for in the future to ensure no hazardous or toxic materials reemerge. While the university would take years to fully recover from the tragedy, the crime scene cleanup aspect of the response was complete.

Drunk Driving At Ballpark Causes Accident Scene Cleanup

Friday, August 6th, 2010

Jud and his buddies got to the ballpark about an hour before game time. More than enough time to kick back a few cold beverages while tailgating. Once they got in the game they managed to imbibe at least 3 more 24 oz. beers before they quit selling in the seventh inning. As they were leaving the stadium on the way out, Jud was attempting to take a left turn without the arrow and failed to see another car that had the right of way. The ensuing collision caused various injuries and the loss of blood to one passenger who was dislodged from Jud’s convertible as he failed to have on his seat belt. There were police nearby so their response was quick but the accident worsened an already tight traffic situation among people leaving the stadium after the game.

The police charged Jud with Driving Under The Influence after they gave him field sobriety tests by the side of the road and tested his breath for alcohol content. They also cited him with Failure To Yield. Since his friends were either injured or drunk (or both), no one could drive the car home. They obtained a tow company to take the damaged car away. They also got an accident clean up company to come to this part of the parking lot where blood and debris were located. This accident scene cleanup company had experience in blood scene clean ups, homicide scene clean ups, suicide scene clean ups, meth lab clean ups, odor removal clean ups and death scene clean ups not to mention staph infection scene clean ups so they knew what they were doing.

Jud spent the night in jail and one of his friends had to make a stop at the emergency room. They all were brutally hung over the next day. They all felt the physical and mental toll of their activities from the night before. But the people who arrived at the ballpark on the next day and parked in the lot near the site of the accident saw no hangover from the previous night. The accident scene cleanup company had performed much better than Jud had driven. Hopefully the attendants of the afternoon game would not be replicating Jud’s efforts and give reason for the accident scene clean up company to get additional business at or around the park.
